PPC landing pages & Holiday Conversion Rates

During the last few months of the year clients rush to optimize their PPC websites to improve their Holiday Conversion Rates. This includes setting up PPC landing pages, xmas gift buy processes and special offer web banners and email campaigns.

The most recent Holiday Landing Page was for the VoIP Solution provider PhoneGnome. Originally I helped the CEO offer a very technical product to a more “general/non-techie” audience. Now they asked me to organize a way to promote two special holiday packs that will entice the consumer to spend a little more and give these products away as holiday gifts. This was part of a PPC landing page design project. This particular product hasn’t been the easiest to market, because it is very unique. But I was up for the challenge.

Since 2005, FutureNow, Inc has hired me as a freelance web designer for conversion rate optimization projects. After designing some landing pages and this microsite, FutureNow asked me (and my team) to complete a new FutureNow web design for the corporate consulting site. Now the site is live and I am very happy with the overcome. This was probably the most challenging site of 2008 that we completed. FutureNow are experts in web marketing and Persuasion Architecture®, so they “Get It” and know what they want. Smart Landing Pages Are Simple

Landing pages serve many different purposes, but they all need to do one thing - DRIVE VISITORS TO A TARGET. Here is an example of a smart landing page that we designed. It uses a simple design composition to drive users to “Learn More” or “Become A Client”. There is also the opportunity to listen to audio before leading them to the objectives.

AB Testing Tip: Small Design Changes = Success!

I have been doing Website AB Multivariate Testing for over 7 years. The consistent result is that small design changes make the biggest difference to improve your ecommerce and lead generation conversion rates. Most of the AB & Multivariate Testing is on landing pages, sales funnels and the ecommerce checkout process. In many cases, I have seen big design changes actual decrease conversion. Therefore, I suggest an optimization plan starting with a limited budget of PPC driving to landing pages, using Google website optimizer. This will help you execute a winning design strategy, plus you will learn which marketing copy to use going forward, plus apply that messaging to banners, text ads and other advertising.

White paper downloads are great for landing pages

free gift landing pagesLanding pages are a great way to monetize web traffic to your website. I recommend giving your visitors something in return for filling out a form. It can be as simple as a free white paper or ebook. Ask for your visitor’s information in a lead form and then they can download a PDF on thank you page. The strategy is to create a relationship with your visitors and they can leave with something tangible - that is valuable.

Here is a landing page that we completed for Future Now, Inc - one of my favorite companies to work with. This optimized landing page offers a white paper on “10 Tips To Start Optimizing Your Site”. In the design below, you can see how the copy is broken up into bullets so the text can be scanned easily. The layout will force your eyes to read the headline and then immediately move over to the lead capture form then down to the button. Plus we added a few content links and the Google logo to show credibility.
